Who’s behind PowerHaus?

The idea is to engage the community. All are welcome to participate. Individuals and organizations are encouraged to get involved. Companies need not only investors but also management, mentors, advisors, directors and connections in order to be successful. Here are some of the initial groups that are participating. The door is open for you to get involved. The best way is to sign up with us and then attend one of the regularly scheduled network meetings at which selected companies will make presentations.

PowerHaus Technology Ventures (VCC) Inc

This is a VCC – Venture Capital Corporation – established as an “angel fund” to invest in PowerHaus companies.
Investors in the VCC receive a 30% refundable tax credit from the B.C. Government. Investors can also use an RRSP or TFSA for additional tax benefits. Investors in the VCC are angel investors and private investors who are interested in the PowerHaus program.

The VCC is managed by GreenAngel Energy Corp, a publicly traded angel fund. 
The VCC will invest an average of $50,000 in a PowerHaus Company along with other investors to provide seed funding up to $500,000.

SFU Innovation Office

The mission of the Innovation Office (formerly UILO) at Simon Fraser University is to facilitate the creation of new university-industry research and development partnerships, and to commercialize the results of University-based research with a view to contributing to economic growth and diversification in British Columbia and Canada through the creation of new businesses and new jobs.

NRC-IRAP

The National Research Council’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) is Canada’s premier innovation assistance program for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It is a vital component of the NRC – a cornerstone in Canada’s innovation system – regarded world-wide as one of the best programs of its kind.

GreenTech Exchange

GreenTech Exchange (GTEx) is a dynamic industry platform with a focus on technology commercialization and solution generation in the green innovation and clean energy domain. GTEx delivers industry relevant forums, networking events, trade missions and market oriented programs to help advance innovation and expertise in the green economy.

Foresight Cleantech Accelerator

The Foresight Cleantech Accelerator Centre is a not-for-profit Canadian company with a mandate to help clean technology entrepreneurs form and accelerate their companies in British Columbia. Foresight was formed in 2013 to help these companies discover their sustainable and profitable business model.
